Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple Trivandrum

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple Trivandrum: Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple At Trivandrum: Kerala's Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple could well be richest in country. The Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala could well be the richest in the country as unofficial estimates Saturday, the sixth day of preparing an inventory of treasures in its six chambers, suggested the value of its gold, diamond and other precious metals at close to Rs 1 lakh crore.

It is rumoured that the precious stones, gold and diamond jewellery stored in the chambers belong to the erstwhile rulers of Travancore princely state.

The inventory of the temple here, maintained by the erstwhile royal family of Travancore, is being made by a seven-member Supreme Court-appointed panel. The stock-taking process was ordered by the Supreme Court following a petition by advocate T.P. Sundararajan over mismanagement of the temple affairs.

  2. Authority of Venad royal family to the temple of Thiruvananthapuram is from 1729 only. Before that from immemorial time it was under the protection of Nair Lords called Ettuveetil pillamar. The internal ritual matters were managed by Ettarayogam - a cousil authorized to decide the internal matters of temple. Royal family respected the Nair Lords and Nair Lords respected the Royal family, as a result the Royal family had valued representation in Ettarayogam. Ettarayogam consisted 7 Potti(s)representation, one Nair lord representation, and Half representation from royal family (Only half). After 1721 Attingal riot everything changed tragically. Marthandavarma captured the city of Ananthapuri and Padmanabhaswami temple.
