Jacqueline Ho Dead: How Ms Jacqueline Ho passed away due to heart attack. A Singapore Polytechnic lecturer died on Monday at the hospital, after suffering a heart attack and collapsing on campus, reported the New Paper and citizen journalism site, Stomp.

Ms Jacqueline Ho - reported to be in her 40s, was found unconscious outside her office at around 11am. Ms Ho was the teacher of students who were involved in the Night Safari "Halloween Horrors" project that was abruptly cancelled.

Ms Ho was teaching at the polytechnic for over a year, at the School of Architecture & the Built Environment, and was described by her students as "approachable", "inspiring", "bubbly" and "optimistic".

Daniel was arrested and taken away on the day of their eviction. It was six days before she could talk to him. "He told me he was put in a cell with another debtor, a Sri Lankan guy who was only 27, who said he couldn't face the shame to his family. Daniel woke up and the boy had swallowed razor-blades. He banged for help, but nobody came, and the boy died in front of him."

To indentured labourers:
He shows me his room. It is a tiny, poky, concrete cell with triple-decker bunk-beds, where he lives with 11 other men. All his belongings are piled onto his bunk: three shirts, a spare pair of trousers, and a cellphone. The room stinks, because the lavatories in the corner of the camp – holes in the ground – are backed up with excrement and clouds of black flies. There is no air conditioning or fans, so the heat is "unbearable. You cannot sleep. All you do is sweat and scratch all night." At the height of summer, people sleep on the floor, on the roof, anywhere where they can pray for a moment of breeze.

The water delivered to the camp in huge white containers isn't properly desalinated: it tastes of salt. "It makes us sick, but we have nothing else to drink," he says.

The work is "the worst in the world," he says. "You have to carry 50kg bricks and blocks of cement in the worst heat imaginable ... This heat – it is like nothing else. You sweat so much you can't pee, not for days or weeks. It's like all the liquid comes out through your skin and you stink. You become dizzy and sick but you aren't allowed to stop, except for an hour in the afternoon. You know if you drop anything or slip, you could die. If you take time off sick, your wages are docked, and you are trapped here even longer."

Sultan is furious. He splutters: "You don't think Mexicans are treated badly in New York City? And how long did it take Britain to treat people well? I could come to London and write about the homeless people on Oxford Street and make your city sound like a terrible place, too! The workers here can leave any time they want! Any Indian can leave, any Asian can leave!"

But they can't, I point out. Their passports are taken away, and their wages are withheld. "Well, I feel bad if that happens, and anybody who does that should be punished. But their embassies should help them." They try. But why do you forbid the workers – with force – from going on strike against lousy employers? "Thank God we don't allow that!" he exclaims. "Strikes are in-convenient! They go on the street – we're not having that. We won't be like France. Imagine a country where they the workers can just stop whenever they want!" So what should the workers do when they are cheated and lied to? "Quit. Leave the country."

constance chee case: Singapore likes to pride itself on a sound justice system, but a recent case truly makes me wonder.

Constance Chee has been found guilty of manslaughter for causing the death of 4-year-old Sindee Neo. Chee had had an affair with Sindee's father, and one night, Chee went to the Neo home to confront him for turning his back on her (there was also disagreement over $40,000 that Chee had given Neo before; she obviously wanted it repaid since the affair had gone sour).

Oct 8, 2004. The case, which riveted Singaporeans, had its beginnings in an unlikely love affair: Chee, who dropped out of university to pursue a flying career with SIA, took up with married rag-and-bone man Neo Eng Tong, 34, Sindee's father.

Actress Hilary Tsui

Hilary Tsui: Hong Kong singer Eason Chan denied recent media reports that claim his marriage to former actress Hilary Tsui is on the rocks, during a media event on Monday, said Taiwan media.

Chan had recently appeared on a Taiwan talk show and said that he no longer speaks much to his wife but communicate with one another mostly by texting.

This soon gave rise to reports that his marriage was in trouble, with some tabloids even claiming that Chan and Tsui would soon divorce.

However, Chan described these reports as "completely untrue" before going on to stress that there is nothing wrong with his marriage.

"We are really fine, our marriage has been very happy and smooth," said the singer.

Suarez Middle Finger: Liverpool star Luis Suarez is likely to find himself in more trouble after being photographed apparently making a one-fingered gesture in the direction of Fulham supporters after last night’s match at Craven Cottage.

The Uruguayan is already in hot water with the FA after being charged for making racist remarks towards Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. And it seems the latest incident could be on his rap sheet before too long.

The Football Association were today investigating a gesture made by Luis Suarez towards Fulham fans after Liverpool's 1-0 loss at Craven Cottage last night. Suarez's willingness to go to ground throughout the match prompted chants of "cheat" from Fulham supporters, to which the 24-year-old responded by raising his middle finger when leaving the pitch after the final whistle. But Fulham's John Arne Riise, who was unaware of the gesture, defended Suarez, who is already facing an FA racism charge, for his play acting.

Strictly Pancakes

Strictly Pancakes: Strictly Pancakes, Singapore Restaurant: Strictly Pancakes is not a place I would call a restaurant. It's a refurbished old shop house near Dhoby Ghat, Singapore. The menu is almost exclusively pancakes.We decided to go with savory pancakes since I have never tried them at home and these sounded delicious. We ordered and waited around 15 mins for this plate of thick, spongy, warm leek, potato and cheese pancakes with sauteed mushrooms on the side, called Potatoes Leeking Cheese. 

Heh. Each order comes with a portion of good quality maple syrup and a flavoured butter of your choice. We chose the herb and garlic butter. One grouse I have though is that this is all the maple syrup you get and if you want more, you get the same quantity but for an extra dollar. Since TH doesn't like maple syrup, I got the entire thing but if you want to share, this is really not enough.

comfortdelgro wants to help taxi drivers? Just remove all surcharges, ComfortDelGro taxi fares hike. The flag-down rate of ComfortDelGro taxis will increase between 20 cents and 70 cents depending on the model of the taxi. The taxi meter will also register a jump of 22 cents for every 400m (below 10 KM) up from 20 cents for every 385m. Beyond 10 KM, the meter will register a jump of 22 cents for every 350m (up from 20 cent for every 350m). Waiting time is now 22 cents for every 45sec.

Not a huge change. But you will notice the difference if you are traveling long distance.

It was indeed shocking to read the news on plans by ComfortDelgro to increase taxi fares.

The slew of ‘adjustments’ are justified as being designed to better meet increased demand is obviously ‘spin’ in PR-speak. If ComfortDelgro really wants to better meet demand, they should take tyrannical cabbies in hand and increase supply.

Helping the cabbies meet rising costs is also cited as a reason but if ComfortDelgro is sincere, then it should stop charging their drivers such exorbitant rental rates.

Singapore Marathon Doc On The Run

Singapore Marathon Doc On The Run: Alarm in 3 rings.I vaguely remembered only last a few hours outside in snoozeville. In fact, I have tried not to think about working to try to sleep, they only dreamed of working for those few precious hours eyes close. It is incredible how ironic that the spirit can be.

The MRT system was actually extra hours of work for the race and, fortunately, Bedok MRT station near nardo of the place. We went there only to 4 and arrived at the station of Orchard MRT, filled of runners and was then when he started the confusion.

Corridors, passageways everywhere and nobody knows where to go. Everyone was assigned a line pen for the last time. Mines and nardo was sub-6: 00. Doc On The Run Singapore Marathon Volunteers gave dark instructions and were probably as confused about the situation as it was. After being redirected to the pen bad and forced to walk twice half Orchard Road, the right and finally good heated plume for the race.
Of course no one could find the entrance of the pen, because the street seems to be walled, we did what most Malays would have made in such situations. We climbed over the barrier, completely ignoring the rules and regulations. Of course it turned out that most other nationalities present in that morning did the same thing of huge frustration.
